Unit 12 · Magnetism and Electromagnetism

Chapter 12.2

Magnetism from Currents

Run a current through a wire and a compass beside it swings. Run a second current nearby and the two wires pull on each other with no magnet anywhere in sight.

By the end

  1. 01Compute a long straight current's field and find its direction with the right-hand rule
  2. 02Add the fields of several wires as vectors, and find the field direction inside a loop
  3. 03Compute the force on a current-carrying wire and predict the force between parallel currents
